Mikael Kemppainen studied in Sibelius-Academy as a student of Minna Pöllänen and Liisa Pohjola. He completed his studies with numerous master courses and private classes with, amongst others, György Sebök, György Kurtag, Pavel Gililov, Claude Helffer, John O’Conor and Niel Immelmann.
He has also studied chamber music in Sibelius-Academy with Ralf Gothóni and lied with Ilmo Ranta, Gustav Djupsjöbacka and Hartmut Höll. In Spring 2001 Kemppainen won the first national Jyväskylä Piano Competition. Kemppainen has appeared as a soloist with many Finnish orchestras, different music festivals such as Turku Music Festival, Espoo International Piano Week and Berlin Piano Forum's concertseries ”Young Prize-Winners”. In addition, Kemppainen has done radiorecordings for Finnish National Radio. Kemppainen is an active chamber musician. Nowadays he appears as a pianist in many master courses and competitions, as well as a oart-time accompanist in Sibelius-Academy. He has also taught in Turku conservatory since 2003.
