Olli Kortekangas premiere planned for Naantali Music Festival in June 2021

Naantali Music Festival has commissioned and premiered many new compositions over the years, and this tradition will continue in 2021 with a work by composer Olli Kortekangas: Partita concertante for cello and chamber ensemble.

The cello soloist for this premiere will be Arto Noras, the Artistic Director of Naantali Music Festival. The concert on 17 June 2021 will also include music by Mozart and Schumann.

“Work on Partita concertante is so much more agreeable in the knowledge that this discharges a commission from Naantali Music Festival, which will assemble a group of brilliant musicians for the premiere. As the designated soloist, Arto Noras has also influenced the peculiar choice of ensemble for performing the work. The combination of solo cello, wind quintet, and harp and percussion challenges the composer in a rare and splendid way,” Olli Kortekangas observes.

Concert tickets will be on sale at the lippu.fi outlet from 1 October.

Originally scheduled for 2 to 13 June 2020, the 41st Naantali Music Festival was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Nearly all of the artists previously booked will also attend next year, meaning that virtually the entire programme of the cancelled festival will be heard in 2021. Tickets for summer 2021 will once again be available via the lippu.fi outlet. A few seats have also become available once more at previously fully-booked concerts in the late spring, including the evening with top soprano Anne Sofie von Otter.
